Wisdom — Disparate Study Guide
Attend to each reading before bringing its interpreters into conversation.
14 of the division’s 338 currently classified Disparate entries now have full studies. The other 324 entries have been inventoried and await commentary. This guide makes the current coverage explicit; unpublished studies are not presented as finished.
Why these readings matter
Wisdom’s poetry teaches readers to pray, discern, love, grieve, and live before God. Sometimes its Hebrew and Greek readings preserve markedly different images or actions. Reading those differences carefully can deepen understanding without forcing agreement. Christian study may then consider how the texts are received in the life and revelation of Christ, while respecting their literary settings and identifying Jewish and Christian interpreters by name.
Readings first, commentary second
Each completed entry reproduces the full Hebrew–English and Greek–English cards from the current comparison edition before five substantial paragraphs: wording comparison, rabbinic understanding, Christian understanding, synthesis, and Likely Cause for Difference. Textual evidence, attributed interpretation, editorial biblical connections, and historical hypotheses are distinguished. A spiritual application is not evidence of how a variant arose.

Two books require a different approach
Wisdom of Solomon: the current comparison edition supplies 435 Greek-source verse cards and no independent Hebrew column. Its next study should explain that scope and develop verified reception; it should not invent Hebrew readings or a Hebrew–Greek disparity count.
Sirach: the current edition compares selected surviving Hebrew manuscript witnesses with inherited Greek-source English. Its provisional paired-row labels include Same, Similar, Different, and Divergent, but no row is currently labeled Disparate. The word Disparate appears in the guide’s category definition only. Missing Hebrew coverage is marked unclassified, not an omission in an otherwise complete Hebrew book. Zero here does not mean that the traditions agree everywhere, nor that Hebrew Sirach is a Masoretic counterpart.
